Lancaster Independent School District Health & Wellness Plan

MISSION: The mission of the Lancaster ISD School Health Advisory Council is to promote school policies that will maintain and improve the health and wellness of its students, employees, and community members.

VISION: The vision of the Lancaster ISD SHAC is to promote healthy physical, mental, social/emotional attitudes and behaviors that can be implemented as lifelong habits.

The L.I.S.D School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) assists the district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in the health education program. The council will address the continued implementation action of a coordinated health program including health education, physical education, health services, nutrition services, counseling, healthy school environment, staff health promotion, and family/ community involvement.

Throughout the school year, the Lancaster I.S.D School Health Advisory Council (S.H.A.C) held meetings once a month to discuss ways to continually assist the district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in the health education program. During each meeting, the council addressed the continued implementation action of a coordinated health program including health education, physical education, health services, nutrition services, counseling, healthy school environment, staff health promotion and family/community involvement. The duties of the SHAC range from recommending the curriculum to developing strategies for integrating the curriculum into a coordinated school health program encompassing issues such as school health services, counseling services, a safe and healthy school environment, recess recommendations, improving student fitness, mental health concerns, and employee wellness.
