September 14, 2023, Lancaster, Tx --We're pleased to introduce LaKeidra Hayes as the new Lancaster High School Head Girls Track and Field Coach. Hayes joins Lancaster ISD with an impressive coaching background, having previously led the 6A McKinney High School's girls track team, where they set six school records, including relay races and individual events.
Under her guidance, one of her athletes became a State Qualifier, finishing 4th at the UIL 6A State Meet in the 400m event. In 2023, McKinney High School saw its highest number of UIL Area and Regional Qualifiers in school history across various track and field disciplines. Coach Hayes has also emphasized academic excellence, with the team maintaining a strong 92% GPA, earning numerous academic awards, scholarships, and recognition. Furthermore, before leading at McKinney High School, Coach Hayes was an integral part of the Duncanville Boy's Track & Field Team, where she helped elevate their relay teams to national prominence and coached several standout athletes.
"Coach Hayes joining the Lancaster High School team marks the beginning of an exciting new era for our high school sports programs," Lancaster ISD Athletic Director Kendrick Brown expressed. "We're eager to see her embark on this journey and begin carrying the torch of our rich tradition of winning. The groundwork has been laid and I have full confidence that she will do great things in track and field and inspire our young ladies."
In addition to her coaching career, Coach Hayes has a strong track record as a former nationally ranked track & field sprinter. She initially signed with the University of Texas at Austin, where she competed as a freshman, achieving recognition in the Big XII in the 60m dash and earning Academic All-American and All-American honors as part of the 4x400m relay team.
Following her freshman year, Coach Hayes transferred to Texas A&M University, training under legendary sprints Coach Vince Anderson. At A&M, she became a 2x NCAA Champion, a 6x All-American, SEC Champion, and Big XII Champion. She was a key member of several relay teams that are still listed on Texas A&M's All-Time records.
Hayes' track and field background, coupled with her dedication to both athletic and academic success, make her a valuable addition to the WEBO athletics program. We look forward to her contributions as we aim for continued excellence on and off the track.
Welcome to WEBO Nation, Coach Hayes!
