The Lancaster ISD Communications Department received honors from the Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) for outstanding work in education communications. The
awards were announced at TSPRA’s annual Star Awards celebration on February 28, 2024, at the Marriot in Sugar Land, Texas during the association’s 62nd annual conference.
Lancaster ISD’s Communications Department received 30 Star Awards during the annual state conference, including the prestigious Crystal Commendation award for excellence in Parent Involvement/Volunteer Program, two Crystal Certificates of Merits, and three Best of Category honors. The Lancaster ISD communications department achieved a historic milestone by receiving the Crystal Commendation honor for the first time.
“Being among the top communication practitioners in Texas, receiving excellent professional development, and getting recognition for our department’s hard work from respected peers are just a few reasons why TSPRA stands out as one of the most respected state associations,” Lancaster ISD Chief of Communications Kimberly Simpson Shared.
“I couldn't be prouder of my team and the effort we've put in. We've created history by earning our department's first-ever Crystal Commendation award, and we are all deeply grateful for the recognition and celebration of our accomplishment."
TSPRA received more than 1800 Star Award entries which focuses project and productions from communications departments during the 2022-2023 school year. For the first 47 categories, theentries are divided into threedivisions based on the number of students the district, foundation or organizations serves - under 15,000 students; 15,000 to 40,000 students; and over 40,000 students. Lancaster ISD is part of the under 15,000 category. Independent judges evaluate and score each entry based on its own merit. Bronze, Silver and Gold Stars are awarded based on set criteria. Crystal and Platinum entries are not split into divisions and there is only one Crystal winner in each category. Judges are permitted to award Certificates of Merit to Crystal entries thatdeserverecognition, although they did not receive the main award.
