June 11, 2024, Lancaster ISD/Lancaster, TX -- Once again Lancaster ISD is fostering learning through its athletic camps. Lancaster ISD hosted its Inaugural Volleyball and Wrestling camp where students of various ages were able to learn the important aspects of the sports.
Newly hired Head Volleyball Coach, La’Quendra Banks, is eager to start her first year with the Lancaster High School Volleyball Team. This camp is the first of the many things she is hoping to accomplish in Lancaster ISD. Coach Banks believes that camps such as these help build the fundamentals and confidence required to play a rigorous sport such as volleyball. It is her hope that this camp continues to build positive skills within the younger athletes and allows them to learn the game. “I’m excited to be here and ready to continue the success that we have around here in Lancaster ISD!”
Head Boys and Girls Wrestling Coach, Jerry Sands, has been instrumental in creating winners, most recently, 2023 5A State Champion, Jaden Machado. Coach Sands believes that this wrestling camp will not only provide athletic fitness but applicable lessons to be used in daily life, “I think it prepares them for life. For one reason, wrestling is a tough sport. It’s going to get your body in shape, it teaches you self-defense, it teaches you about leadership skills, it teaches you how to be on time.” It is Coach Sands’ plan to continue to grow the camp every year. He believes that this opportunity will be extremely beneficial in Lancaster to give the younger athletes exposure to a sport they may not be aware of. It is Coach Sands’ ultimate goal to not only introduce wrestling to the community but to also coach one of the campers into a state championship in the future.
Lancaster ISD desires to continue to support our young athletes today, in preparation for tomorrow.
