In honor of Black History Month, we are proud to highlight our superintendent, Dr. Katrise Perera. She is making Black History “Herstory” by serving as the first female superintendent of Lancaster ISD. Dr. Perera is also one of only six Black female superintendents in the state of Texas.

Before joining Lancaster ISD in June of 2021, Dr. Perera served as the superintendent of schools in Oregon (2017-2021)  and Virginia (2011-2015). Her career in K12 education spans more than two decades, beginning in 1994 as a teacher in Charlottesville, Virginia. She’s also served in Houston ISD as a School Improvement Area Superintendent and a teacher, principal, and district-level administrator for Henrico County Public Schools in Virginia.

Since joining the Tiger family, Dr. Perera has been intentional about listening to district stakeholders and listening to our scholars to understand and address their needs. She has made a positive impact on students, faculty and staff, and the Lancaster ISD community.

We are proud that Dr. Perera is serving Lancaster ISD and continues to uplift education and advocate for equity, inclusion, and access for all students. Under Dr. Pereras’ leadership, all of Lancaster ISD is #RaisingTheirRoar and showing what it means to be a Lancaster ISD Tiger.
