Lancaster ISD is pleased to announce DaShonda Millner as the new principal of West Main Elementary. Millner has been an educator for more than 20 years. Most recently, Millner served as the West Main Elementary interim principal and will take the lead role for the campus during the 2023-2024 school year.
“I am grateful, humbled, and honored to be named principal,” said Millner. “This transition in my career marks the realization of a goal that has been years in the making, and it fills my heart with immense pride. It allows me to walk more deeply in what I believe is my purpose as an educator: to show young scholars the immeasurable value of education and guide them on their path to success.”
Her career in education began in 2002, and for 13 years, Millner served as an elementary classroom teacher before joining Lancaster ISD. Since joining the district, she has taken on various roles, including campus interventionist at West Main Elementary and assistant principal at Houston Elementary. In 2019, Millner returned to West Main as the assistant principal, steadfastly committed to teaching and leadership.
Millner earned her Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Texas at Arlington. She pursued her Juris Doctor degree from the Texas Wesleyan School of Law. She graduated and became a State Bar of Texas member in 2004.
Recognizing the importance of furthering her knowledge in education, Millner pursued a Master of Education Administration from the University of North Texas in 2009. Her determination to create a better future for young minds has been a constant driving force in her career.
“In the upcoming school year, I hope to strengthen academic programs, promote holistic growth in both the teachers and students, enhance parental and community engagement, and integrate technology effectively in classrooms to enhance instruction and prepare our scholars for the increasingly digital world they will encounter in their education and future careers.”
Outside of her professional endeavors, Millner treasures quality time with her family. She enjoys reading and expresses her creativity through crafting. As a member of the esteemed Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Millner actively engages in community service and upliftment.
Millner is the proud mother of two daughters and a loving grandmother to a beautiful granddaughter. Her deep love for her family and unwavering dedication to justice and education continue to shape her path.
